HEALTHCARE. FIRST RESPONDERS. EDUCATORS. VETERANS

IT’S TIME THAT YOU HAD A SAFE SPACE TO TALK.

Night sky filled with stars and the Milky Way galaxy above dark mountain silhouettes, with one bright meteor streaking across.

Welcome to Kentala Behavioral Health!

At the core of our approach to therapy is a belief that those who take care of others deserve a safe space to feel seen, valued, and heard.

You're tired of feeling like no one understands what your day is like. You’re tired of feeling like you don’t have a safe space to talk. You’re tired of feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and angry.

We serve HEALTHCARE WORKERS, FIRST RESPONDERS, EDUCATORS, AND VETERANS.

You’re in the right spot.

How we work

Our therapists are trauma informed and come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. We use a multitude of theories such as Narrative, Internal Family Systems, CBT, CPT, and Solution Focused Therapy.

Kentala Behavioral Health was founded by Lauren Murdock, LPC with a deep respect for the individuals who dedicate their lives to serving others. Lauren grew up just outside of Boston, Massachusetts to a family where education (and Boston culture) was everything.

After moving to Virginia, Lauren became a military spouse and eventually a mother of three children. Lauren experienced first hand the challenges that come with deployment, uncertainty, and the unwanted resilience that military families carry every day.

Laurens appreciation for healthcare workers is also deeply personal in that all of her children were in the NICU for several months after birth. During that time, she witnessed the extraordinary dedication, compassion, and expertise of the medical teams who care for babies and the families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Lastly, Lauren holds deep respect for the first responders who step forward in moments when others step back. Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and other emergency personnel put their lives on the line every day for the safety of others. At Kentala Behavioral Health, it is the least we can do to serve you.

HEre’s what we believe about therapy:

This isn't about becoming someone "different."

Your therapist doesn’t want to change you. Your therapist wants to help you to grow, while discarding the parts of yourself that no longer serve you.

The best investment you can make is in yourself.

Clients consistently tell us that after going through therapy, they feel like themselves again. They are happier, healthier, and all of their interpersonal relationships have improved.

You are inherently deserving of a healthy life.

You deserve to have healthy communication, healthy boundaries, and healthy interpersonal relationships.
